Chamber

Our extraordinary resident chamber ensemble Urban Nocturnes returns this season with two quintet programs. Guest violinist Steven Moeckel joins in the fall for a program featuring works by Shostakovich, Ysaÿe, and Beethoven. The spring program offers a variety of works for string and winds, including the music of Süssmayr, Reger, and contemporary composer Brian Raphael Nabors.

Piano

ASU Assistant Professor Miki Aoki performs works for solo piano on the cathedral’s splendid Bösendorfer piano. A frequent guest artist in prestigious concert series and festivals around the world, she made her debut at age 12 in London as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra. We’re excited to present this outstanding pianist in our wonderful cathedral setting.

Organ

Our Peel Memorial organ recitalist this year is Adam Brakel, Director of Music at St. James Cathedral and the Diocese of Orlando, Florida. National Public Radio hailed him as “an absolute organ prodigy with the technique and virtuosity that most concert pianists could only dream of…he is the Franz Liszt of the organ.”

If one is good, two must be better!  Local organists (and friends) James Gerber and Erik Goldstrom offer up music for four hands and four feet! Music for Four Hands features music by Hakim, Merkel, Ferko, Wagner, and John Phillips Sousa.

Choral

The Cathedral Choir offers two Choral Evensong services this season: the Feast of All Saints in the fall and the Fourth Sunday in Lent (Mothering Sunday). Evensongs will feature old chestnuts from the repertory as well as stunning, rarely performed works. Of course, you won’t want to miss our perennial Christmastide classic, A Festival of Lessons and Carols, which will usher in your Christmas celebration with carols by a wide array of composers.
