Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

This beloved Christmastide service and standing-room-only Trinity Cathedral tradition began in 1918 at King’s College, Cambridge. Nine lessons are read by young and old alike, and the congregation and community are interwoven through the singing of carols by both choir and congregation. Featured works by Willcocks, Briggs, Rutter and others. The seasonal merriment begins with a harp prelude and guests are invited to a traditional Wassail reception immediately following the service. Join the Cathedral Choir as they perform The St Mark Passion (full title: The Passion of Our Lord According to Saint Mark) by composer Charles Wood. On the request of Revd Dr. Eric Milner-White, Wood composed the piece over the course of nine days 1 August to 9 August 1920 and first performanced at King's College Chapel, Cambridge MA.
